New release: QuestLord

Developer Lava Level has just released QuestLord, an iOS FPDC that reminds me quite a lot of Might and Magic 4-5, albeit with real-time combat and a single character in lieu of a party.

Here’s the premise:

In QuestLord you assume the role of a lone hero out to save the Shattered Realm from certain destruction!

…wait. That’s it? That’s the whole thing? Come on, Lava Level! Where’s the foreplay? At least throw some gibberish fantasy words at me! Here, how about this: “In QuestLord, you assume the role of a lone hero out to save the shattered realm of Elfmanisel from certain destruction at the hands of the evil Lord Zexomino! Find the four Elemental Doohickeys of Power, or the world is surely doomed.”

Here is a trailer, which should make up for the anemic plot summary:

QuestLord is reputed to feature a real-time, swipe-based combat system; more than 100 interactive NPCs; more than 160 maps; 3 playable races (human, elf and dwarf), each with its own starting location; and “a wizard named Throzdin!!!!” Throzdin? Is that the bad guy? Okay. Substitute Throzdin in for Lord Zexomino (or whatever we decided the villain’s name is) above.

You can pick up QuestLord for the iPhone and iPad over on the Apple app store for $1.99.

EDIT: it’s now available for Android as well.

Hmm..I have been playing this game for a while and I enjoy it. I think with ‘developers’ at Lava Level you mean, DEVELOPER at lavalevel… as in singular because it was made by just 1 person, this guy @Lavalevel . It clearly states it is turn-based and not real time. It’s clear you haven’t even played this game. bad mood? Seems odd to lash out an this game like this without even trying it.

Of course I haven’t played this. Surely you don’t expect me to personally buy and play every single game I post a news blurb about? As I usually do when posting “new release” blurbs, I was going off of the author’s descriptions, which seemed to indicate some sort of real-time aspect to combat (to wit: “Screen swiping combat!”) It seems a bit misleading to tout that if the swiping is nothing more than a substitute for pushing an “attack” button once a turn.

    Anyway, I’ll post a correction.

Well I’m glad you will give it another chance based on the listing anyway, cause I am making an indie RPG and I have found the author of Quest Lord’s development story quiet inspiring. You should check it out, a true indie who deserves respect from his piers. I know I couldn’t have made a game like this 100% by myself.

It seems like a cool game; I was just poking a bit of fun at it over its lack of a story summary. I think you may have read this story more negatively than it was intended. 🙂

Ha! Just came across this. Tarnis…. 4.5 stars on iOS and Android. I wouldn’t sweat this. Message the QuestLord Facebook page and I’ll send you some QuestLord merch!!! Thanks for the kind words for my work my man!!! And best of luck with your own indie rpg!
