Back to Back: indie RPGs to fund
Hoo boy–we’re a bit behind, aren’t we? I can’t believe it’s been so long since our last Back to Back!
Of those we looked at last time, Children of Zodiarcs, Knights and Bikes, RPGolf, and Shadows of Adam hit their funding goals; City of the Shroud, Consortium: The Tower, Dual Gear, and Zarya and the Cursed Skull did not (though Dual Gear had a flexible funding campaign, so it pulled in about half its goal).
So: what’s new?
A whole lotta sRPGs (and a few non-sRPGS) is what!
Arcadian Atlas – previously covered here, Arcadian Atlas is an isometric pixel art sRPG in the Final Fantasy Tactics style. Arcadian Atlas is doing well, with $42,000 raised out of its $90,000 funding goal and 19 days in which to raise the rest. (Honestly, I’d be surprised if it didn’t.)
City of the Shroud – “Waiiiit a second, didn’t you jus–” Yup! City of the Shroud turned around from the cancellation of its last campaign and got right back on Kickstarter, where it has now surpassed its $14,000 funding goal (a little less than 1/3 of what it was asking for last time, which I assume is the result of a large reduction in scope). As before, City of the Shroud remains a 3D sRPG with attack combos that you input in fighting game style. Free demo here. There are 17 days left to push City of the Shroud’s funding higher if you want in.
Faunus Fields – billed as an RPG/farming simulator in the Harvest Moon style, Faunus Fields plans to feature randomly generated dungeons, two major play styles, and multiple endings. Faunus Fields has about $7,000 left to raise in the next 24 hours if it’s to get funded.
Healer’s Quest – in essence: you play through a series of side-on, real-time jRPG battles as the sole healer in a party of terrible adventurers, whom you must frantically attempt to keep alive. Free demo here. This one has $5,000 left to raise in the next 17 days.
Himeko Sutori – previously covered here, this insanely ambitious sRPG is giving Kickstarter another go after things didn’t pan out last March. Another year in the oven has clearly done this game some favors, though I have some doubts about how ready it’ll be by its predicted ship date of February 2017. It also bears mentioning that the $10,000 funding goal they’ve chosen is really low given how many unique characters this game is planned to feature (more than 100!) Himeko Sutori has about $9,500 left to raise and 28 days left on the clock.
Isles of Arthanos – a 3D first-person action RPG that’s clearly aiming to be an Elder Scrolls competitor. The game features support for co-op play, modding, and a level editor. There’s a free demo, too. The game’s goal is a lofty $176,000; there are 29 days left for it to rack that up.
