New release: Tales of Maj’Eyal: Age of Ascendancy

I found out about Tales of Maj’Eyal by virtue of DIY Gamer featuring it as roguelike of the year, eking out a win over the much better-known Dungeons of Dredmor. Tales of Maj’Eyal is a bit like Dredmor in that it eschews ASCII graphics in favor of representational ones, and it tacks on a nice, […]

New release: Septerra Core: Dream About the Past

Sensou writes in to inform me that he has created an homage to the original Septerra Core in RPG Maker. It’s a free fan game, essentially, which you can nab here. There is a video showing some gameplay footage, which should probably give you some idea if you’ll be interested or not.

New release: Avernum: Escape from the Pit

Jeff Vogel has released his remake of the original Avernum for Mac. If you’re a Mac user, the game can be yours for $20; if you’re a Windows user, you’ll have to wait for “Q1, 2012.” Either way, here is a trailer showing off the game in its new engine.

New release: Wanderlust: Rebirth

Here’s another one for the “New to Me” file. Team Wanderlust writes in to inform me of the existence of their four-player co-op action RPG, Wanderlust: Rebirth. This one was evidently released in mid-June of this year, if you believe the reviewer over at TIGSource (personally, I believe him). Here is how the developers describe […]

New release: Dreamscape

File this one under “New to Me”: last year, Aldorlea Games released an RPG Maker jRPG by the name of Dreamscape. Today, you can read a new, short review of the the game up on DarkStarMatryx, in which the reviewer describes Dreamscape as reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. (Insofar as the game’s premise involves delving […]

New release: Dark Delve

This is a good week to be into first-person dungeon crawlers. Mark Harvey of Checkmark Games writes in to announce the release of another one, Dark Delve, for XBox Live Indie Games. (He indicates that there may be a PC release in the future, but for now this appears to be an XBLIG exclusive.) He […]

New release: Frayed Knights: The Skull of S’makh-Daon

Jay Barnson (recently interviewed here) has released the first episode of Frayed Knights, a comedic party-based first-person dungeon delver in the spirit of the old Wizardry games. In his press release, Jay writes: On top of the serious, ‘hard-core’ engine, The Skull of S’makh-Daon layers a world and story with a decidedly more tongue-in-cheek approach […]

New release: The Fall of Gods

GeexGames writes in to announce the XBLIG release of The Fall of Gods (TFoG was evidently released for the PC on July 26, 2011). I’m not going to bother summarizing TFoG’s generic story. (Playing the game, one gets the overwhelming sense that the developer didn’t care much about it, so why should we?) That said, […]

New release: Hero Mages

Have you ever heard of Hero Mages before? I hadn’t. So as far as I’m concerned, this is a new release (even though it was apparently released, like, a year ago). Hero Mages is a top-down perspective, turn-based tactics game by D20 Studios. At first glance, it looks a little bit like one of the […]
